Information for Teachers of Grades 6, 7 and 8

Please go to the YAC X page for information concerning the cancellation of YAC X, scheduled for April 20, 2013.  YAC X has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 19, 2014.

The information below is general in nature and will be true for YAC X in 2014.

What happens and how much do I have to do?

Nothing much happens until LATE JANUARY when your school receives one hard copy of the INFORMATION MAILING for the teachers of grades 6, 7 and 8 in your school.  That breaks down into one copy to be shared with or copied to each teacher of grade 8, one copy to be shared with or copied to each teacher of grade 7 and one copy to be shared with or copied to each teacher of grade 6. PLEASE MAKE AS MANY COPIES AS YOU NEED FOR BOTH COLLEAGUES AND STUDENTS.

So, if your school secretary gives you the mailing, please distribute copies to your colleagues as quickly as possible.

A HARD REGISTRATION DEADLINE will be clearly stressed in the information mailing, as well as all the requirements for registration.  Registration is done electronically or by Canada Post directly to the chair of the Young Authors Conference and all communication with applicants will be done by conference staff after we receive the applications.  We will only contact you if communication with applicants from your school has broken down.

Your role in the application process?
1. Pass copies of the information mailing to your colleagues, if you receive the YAC X information mailing package from your school's secretary.
2. Get information about the conference to your students whom you think would benefit from the conference.  You may send as many students from your class as you deem fit.
3. Help the students select a piece of writing to submit with their applications.
4. Remind them to submit their applications in good time.  The HARD DEADLINE is usually about two weeks before the conference date, which for YAC X will be Saturday, April 19, 2014.  The HARD DEADLINE will be Friday,APRIL 4, 2014.

In June 2014, a copy of the commemorative book for YAC X will be sent to each student in your school who participated in the conference.  The books will be addressed to each student and will be mailed to your school using the board's courier system.  Students of alternate schools will receive their copies by Canada Post.  Please call 519-686-4806 or email yac10@rogers.com if your students have not received their copies of the book by JUNE 13, 2014.

That is about it.

You would be welcome to attend the conference for all or part of the day.  Of course, we would welcome your participation at any point in the planning and mounting of the conference.  We always need small group leaders and conference staff, not to mention planners on the steering committee.  Please contact me, John Stewart, chair of the steering committee for YAC X, at 519-686-4806, if you would like to become more involved in the YACs.
