YAC X (pronounced "yack ten")

It is with great reluctance that the steering committee has had to conclude that we cannot hold a successful YAC this April, 2013.  The alternate schools and the London District Catholic School Board are prepared to move forward with a reduced YAC this spring, but I am not prepared to accept the absence of the Thames Valley District School Board schools.  The TVDSB has strongly supported the YACs from the beginning, before the LDCSB and the alternate schools joined the YACs.

Amy McAuley will be our guest author for YAC X on Saturday, April 19, 2014.  We hope to book St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School as the site.

The earlier posting about YAC X has been up-dated to give useful information about YAC X, but references to the event being held in April 2013 have been removed or up-dated.

In 2014, we will celebrate the tenth Young Authors Conference organized by PDK London and offered to students of grades 6, 7 and 8 of the Thames Valley District School Board, the London District Catholic School Board and alternate schools in the London area.

Young Authors Conference X will be held on Saturday, April 19th, 2014, likely at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in London.  Stay tuned to this site for further updates and mark your calendars now !  Our guest author will be Amy McAuley, author of Over and Over You and Violins of Autumn.  You can read all about her on her website at www.amymcauley.com/

Please ask your teacher about YAC X in late January, 2014.  Each teacher of grades 6, 7 and 8 in the Thames Valley District School Board, the London District Catholic School Board and approximately 20 alternate schools in and around London will receive information and application forms for YAC X.  If by mid-February, 2014, your teacher still has not received the mailing about YAC X, please contact J. Stewart, chair of the YAC X steering committee at 519-686-4806 or at yac10@rogers.com.

The timeline for YAC X will be included in the information mailing and will be posted here in January, 2014.

In 2012, 38 of the 106 participants in YAC IX submitted a piece of writing or an illustration for the commemorative book, whose cover is shown to the left.  This is an opportunity for you to experience something of the publishing process.  We will be your copy editors, which means we will clean up your spelling, grammar, punctuation and paragraphing.  We will not alter your plot, characters or setting, because we just don't have time to do that part of the editor's job.

The YACs have been compared to a music day camp for students who love music or to a sports tournament for sports-minded students.  You will be surrounded by young people and adults who love to read and write.

We hope to see you at YAC  on Saturday, April 19, 2014.
